The Weather

For those of you who told me it only snows in Vancouver maybe once or twice in the winter season you have a lot of explaining to do....
It's been snowing here since last night (Saturday) and it will be snowing until tomorrow (Monday). Apparently there are snowfall warnings and there's about 20-30cm to hit Vancouver.

Just Bizarre

The other day I decided to make myself a smoothie because I couldn't use the water to make my breakfast. (I use water to make oatmeal in case you are wondering, if you weren't wondering that's crazy, always wonder!) So, I was like, okay, I'll make a smoothie; I'll use a frozen banana, some frozen berries, and orange juice. First things first I thought I should defrost my banana so I go ahead and put the banana in the microwave to defrost it and I leave it alone. I go to the couch and sit at the edge of the couch because there's a heater there and I dry my hair in the morning by the wall heater. I left my hair dryer in Barrie and I just haven't replaced it. Okay, so I'm sitting there watching Barefoot and drying my hair when all of a sudden I see flames in the micorwave. I'm not talking about little sparks, I'm talking about an actual fire in the microwave. So, I start screaming to Dave, who is sound asleep and I leap off the couch and dart to the microwave to see what the heck is going on. I open the microwave door, take the flaming banana out and throw it under some running water. It was at this point that I started to shake, Dave was freaked out and shaking, and Twoberdoo's tale was puffed up. It's safe to say that we were freaked out. This all happend at 7:30 in the morning. Luckily no one was injured in this freak microwave accident.
If someone out there is a banana/microwave specialist it would be great if you could explain to me exactly what happened. It's safe to say that I'm not going to defrost bananas in the microwave EVER again.

Now that's crazy bananas!

Is Vancouver even a real city?

Apparently, although I'm not entirely sure who my source is, Vancouver is the only city in Canada that does not have a filtration system for its water.

Anyways, as many of you know we cannot drink the water because of some rain storm that occurred and caused mud to penetrate into the resevoirs and now we can't drink the water because it is brown. The water might also contain the norwalk virus and ecoli, but really, who knows?

On Friday I go into work have a glass of water from a water cooler and a large glass of tea. I later found out that the water from the cooler is actually filtered water from the tap and the hot water I got for my tea from the hot water dispenser is actually 10 degrees below the boiling point. That's great.

This is kind of frustrating because all I drink is water. My favourite drink is water, when I go to a restaurant I order water. When I'm thirsty at work or at home I drink water. As you can see here, this picture was taken a few weeks back.

You can see, I have a serious problem and all the bottled water here is sold out.

What the heck Vancouver? Get your act together and fix our water situation!!

Cheers?

Chair + Two Monitors + Jeans = New Job

To those of you who don't know I have a new job. The company is called Blast Radius, they are a web design company. It's a 25 minute walk to work (it's right down the street from the caffe I was working at. How convenient!?
Anyways, I'm really excited to be working there, the people seem really great, there are treat wednesdays, I can wear jeans to work, there's free herbal tea, which I love and the guy I'm going to be working closely with is totally awesome.
There are also offices in San Fran, Toronoo, Amsterdam and New York. Definitely opportunity to move around, so I really lucked out!

Novembrance Day

I do not want to disrespect anyone and my intention is to show how ridiculous I am and that even though I have actually been to University and graduated with Honours I am in fact not smart.
I have been calling Remembrance Day Novembrance Day.
Also, in Vancouver Remembrance Day is a holiday. The other day I was on the phone with some lady and this is how our conversation went:

Caryl: "Can we meet on Monday?"
Lady: "Ah no, Monday is a holiday!"
Caryl: "A Holiday?"

She was confused. We continue our conversation, however her voice at this point as a tone, a tone I'm quite familiar with.

Lady: "Ah yes! it's Remembrance Day!"

Caryl: "That's a holiday here?"
Lady: "I'll see you Tuesday."

It's at this point in the conversation I'm sure she thought I was crazy. Luckily for me I never have to meet this lady, I hope.

Anyways, just thought I would share this with you.

A Tip

Thank you to Anna Olsen the host of Sugar for this tip. I was watching her show yesterday and found this out.

If you have a glass and you want to put hot water in it and you want to prevent it from breaking all you have to do is put a regular spoon in the glass and the glass won't break.
