Real Life

Working is pretty satisfying, especially if you work 9-5 Monday to Friday and then get weekends off. It's comforting to know that you can get up everyday, go to work, and have fun, especially if it's a job that you like. Until that day, the day, it's all normal, except for the fact the day prior to today, which would be yesterday, 14 people were laid off. You're at your desk and you think you're safe, it's like when you're on Survivor or Big Brother and they say you're safe, but everyone is lying to your face, and you're really not safe at all. The girl from HR comes over to your desk, your heart sinks, she asks to talk to you in the board room, and your boss's boss is on the phone. You walk over with her, your heart at this point is now racing, so much so you think it's going to explode out of your chest. This is it. You think about the fact that you're going to die right there in that board room, wouldn't they feel bad. Maybe they'd think twice about letting you go. You sit in a shocked and confused state, while at the same time trying to keep it together. I mean, you're strong, don't show your weakness. When all of a sudden, here come the water works, flowing down the rapids, quickly and uncontrollably. You can't get a word in because you are consumed with salty, tear drops, and short breaths. The HR lady gives you a package of papers and your severance, which is nice, but how long will it really last you, you forget about it and you immediately need to go to your desk to get your things. Only, they won't let you. You insist you're fine, they insist they'll go for you, and that you can get your things after. You're left with no choice. HR girl comes with some of your things, you gather it up, and leave the building immediately. You try not to trip down the stairs, your eyes are filled with sadness, you're feeling pretty shitty, and shocked. Many things go through your head, was there something that you did? Did you spend too much time on facebook? Was it because I gossiped about that girl at the other office? Lucky for you, it wasn't you, it was them. Your manager offers a letter of reference. You feel pretty sad for a while, but then you continue on with your life and realize, perhaps this happened for a reason, but you still get out of bed, and head through life, wondering what's next for you.  It's not the end of the world. It's the next step to the next part in your life.
To new beginnings!
Until then,
Caryl
